The 9-year-old Sofia Spasova, who won 2nd place in the European tournament, after a close final with a representative of the hosts. Having achieved numerous successes at national and international championships, this vice-European title is the first big step of the young hope in kickboxing.
Here is what the coach of Star Team – Ivan Georgiev, who is also a national coach in the tatami disciplines, shared:
„The 30 gold medals in Istanbul are not accidental, Bulgaria is a factor in the world kickboxing!
This championship proved once again that we are on the right track. Bulgaria, after the covid pandemic period, is becoming a force that others have to reckon with in this sport.
The most important thing was that as a whole our country performed amazingly and showed that the performances in the last few championships were not at all the result of chance.
This continuity that you and I talked about last time is no longer just a wishful thinking in our club, it becomes a fact. We have been trained, then we pass on our experience to other specialists, and they have now, at this championship, shown their qualities as leaders and coaches. They are aware of their responsibility to others. To adolescents who use them as motivation, inspiration and role models. For us, the leaders of the Star Team, this is a dream come true!“
The Bulgarian national team was represented by competitors and judges, with 3 of the Bulgarian judges raising their category to class „A“ and Veneta Georgieva and Ani Minkova being awarded the best referee / judge of tatami and ring women.
The President of the Bulgarian Confederation of Kickboxing and Muay-Thai – Galin Dimov was on the spot throughout the competition to support the competitors and expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, which once again proves that the confederation is successfully managed and the direction is right.
Here are the words used by Galin Dimov after the end of the championship:
„We share the success because it is important to know that here in this wonderful country there is a kickboxing team that is doing everything in its power all over the world to learn about Bulgaria, listen to and remember the anthem!!“
